"You don't need more space, you need less things " - We should follow these words whenever we think "there is no place for it"

There is no magic number for the amount of things we should have. We have different needs, desires, and activities. At different times in our lives we need something different, but it is important not to drag with us all the things we needed, received or just because we spent money on them.

The most common reaction of my clients in the first stage of decluttering, when we take everything out of the cabinets and collect all items of a given category, in one place is surprise:

"Wow, do I have that much?"

"Where did it all go?"

"I didn't even know I had these things"

"Ooooh, I've been looking for this so long"

Each of us has experienced a move once in his life and knows what I am writing about.

So what to do to effectively limit the number of things that we really need and, most importantly, maintain such a state for a long time?

Collect in one place all items from one category, even those that are not in the room intended for this. For example, a thing for preparing, serving, cooking and storing food. It would seem: Kitchen, but if you look well, in other rooms in the house you will find: napkins, spare plates, a juicer, a new set of knives and other wonders. The same goes for clothes. It is not only a wardrobe, it is also a chest of drawers in the hall, a wardrobe in the corridor, a laundry and ironing basket and a cardboard box with clothes in a different size. Collect all items from this one category in one place.

Choose the things you love and without which you cannot imagine to function, which you use all the time and the ones you like best - those that you find beautiful. Set aside - you will arrange them in the places most accessible to you. Consciously, I advise you not to start by throwing it away, as it may put you in a bad mood.

Items that you use seasonally in the kitchen will be e.g. a hare-shaped cake mold, Christmas tableware, springform cake tin. In the wardrobe, it will be an amazing dress for special occasions. Just don't choose things that you have always had for some occasion and never use them. In my kitchen it was a teapot for Italian coffee (a gift), but having a coffee machine, I do not use it in a toilet. Seasonal items should be put in the high organizers so as to put a few of them and put in the upper part of the wardrobe.

Time for a cardboard box to hand over and for sale

Here, put everything that you give away or give (just note - do not hit your loved ones with your belongings now. Ask if anyone needs it!) Or put it up for sale. This cardboard box can make good money back if you spend some time preparing nice ads.

Garage sales, e.g. on a housing estate, are also a great idea - it's a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors

Now it's time for what's left. You have already chosen the things you like, you need them (even seasonally), you have chosen the things that you can donate and go ahead and sell them - you paid for them. If the things that were left are not important to you in any way, you should not have a problem with them and throw them away, just throw them into the trash

Finally, when planning what to get rid of, don't drive to storage boxes first, as you'll start stuffing things into them instead of throwing them away. Remember to stick to the scheme helps to complete each step in the first stage of organizing the space in your home.

Have a Nice Day
